Baby Survival Kits 4

Humanitäre Reise nach Grenada:
27.10.04 - 11.11.04

Humanitarian Journey To Grenada:
10/27/04 - 11/11/04

Baby Survival Kit
After days of uncertainty we finally got the message:
We shall leave Barbados on a fishing boat to bring Baby-Survival-Kits (BSK) to Grenada the day after tomorrow . Bring your own food, unitedcaribbean.com will provide accommodation, transport and telecommunication.
Jules & MArtin

Our Dutch friends help us pack: Jules repairs his old dive bag for us while Heim admires all the useful items of our utility bag...

Barbados Harbour
We all meet at the port of Barbados:volunteers and the team that will distribute the Baby-Survival-Kits in Grenada to health centers and mothers in need.

In the shadows of the great cruise liners we load the little fishing boat Dove IV with BSKs, drinking water and other items for Grenada.

After Dove IV left Barbados in the late afternoon, we spend 14 uncomfortable but magical hours on the cabin's roof. We watch the total eclipse of the moon on high seas. At sunrise we debark on the jetty in Carriacou, one of the islands of the 3-island-state Grenada.

The boat continues to Grenada's main island immediately in order to deliver drinking water.

So we unload the boat on Carriacou's jetty and wait for Jenny to organise a bus to bring us and the relief items temporarily into the basecamp
at Cassada Bay.
We prepare our hut, deposit our luggage and, soon after sunset...

Ferry Amelia 2 Carraiacou <-> Grenada
... we move us and our relief items on the ferry Amelia 2, which is to leave for Grenada's main island at 2 a.m.

Ferry Amelia 2 Carraiacou <-> Grenada

As we hardly got any sleep yesterday, it was easy to fall asleep on the narrow pallets of the ferry.

We arrive St. George's harbour at about 6 a.m.

At the crack of dawn we get a first glimpse of what Ivan has left of Grenada.
